Vinny’s House

2:00pmMonday

2:00pmMonday

As a pioneering DJ, partner in House Afrika Records and producer, Vinny Da Vinci has cemented a reputation as a seriously important figure on the South African dance music scene – and all without compromising his deeply underground aesthetic. Vinny has navigated the mixes on cutting-edge compilation series like ‘Deep House Sounds’ and ‘Africanism’, and his production work (as DJ’s At Work alongside DJ Christos) has set the bar high for beat-makers across the country. His dedicated efforts have contributed hugely to what is certainly the healthiest house music market on the planet. From The Arena and Ellesse through to Carnalita and Pacha, Vinny has spun at the most seminal nightspots and played alongside the planet’s best DJs, and through these appearances and the astute selection skills he’s displayed on too many collections to mention, he’s played a major part in the evolution of SA’s dance scene…

@dj_Strat3gy blends the underground grooves of the African streets with future tech visions, enhanced by Don’t Look Down, the prolific convergence agency he founded; and refined by the unremitting quality demands of House Afrika Records, the seminal SA label he is a partner in. He’s repped Mzansi internationally from Bali to São Paulo, with notable appearances at the Miami Winter Music Conference, Amsterdam Dance Event, and Black Coffee’s Hï Ibiza residency. History may one day reflect that he created the world’s first live social TV DJ residency, debuting in 2004 as GoChat for a potentially world record-setting and as yet unbroken, 14 year on-air run in a relentless media evolution, ultimately rendering today’s Africa-wide Hit Refresh broadcasts on VuzuTV - spinning off multiple TV DJ mix hits including Bassment, O-Boma and Vinny’s House along the way. He has contributed mixes to House Afrika Grooves compilations with Bristol’s Peng and Chicago’s Large Recordings, shared mixing duties with the mighty Tim White for a Hit Refresh release, before uniting with remaining label partner, Vinny Da Vinci, to see individual mixes combinesd for release as House Afrika Sessions 8. @dj_Strat3gy also co-created and executive produced Black Coffee's Africa Rising events and SAMA-winning, platinum-selling CD and DVD releases. A veteran selector with more than two decades behind the mixer, he combines an adventurous taste for the future, with a keen awareness for musical roots, evidenced by regular pilgrimages to specific House and Techno cultures in New York, Detroit and Berlin. His disregard for imposed boundaries of sound has ignored the criticism of purists to develop a defiant personal performance range, which has delivered notable appearances, spanning from Louie Vega to Dixon and Ame, and stretching from Monolake to Richie Hawtin. He has recently been exploring cross genre collaborations with a diversity of artists, including long-standing Johnny Clegg drummer, Barry van Zyl; Freshly Ground bassist, Josh Hawkes; and multi-instrumentalist Brendan Jury - in a style first explored with EVI master, Bruce Cassidy of Blood, Sweat and Tears fame.

Sir LSG (real name Lesego Sefako) needs no introduction. With over ten years of DJing and music production experience, he has built up a very strong name for himself in the game. A career that started in his student years as an electrical engineering student at one of South Africa’s most prestigious universities, the University of The Witwatersrand, has culminated into a very successful South African music brand. Primarily, he plays within the electronic music scene in South Africa, and in so doing, he unleashes his talent packaged in innovation, progression and sublime musical mastery. After being bitten by the music bug in his formative years, he decided to enhance his talent by getting formal training at the Soul Candi Institute of Music and the Academy of Sound Engineering. Receiving formal education in music catapulted him into a new level where he was afforded the skills, coupled with his innate talent, to break boundaries. And boundaries he broke, catching the attention of South African music legends like DJ Christos and German House pioneer, Ralf Gum, who helped mould him into the artist we know today. With an insatiable hunger for success, Sir LSG continued to impress with strong releases and in 2011, he caught a hit with the GOGO Music released banger, ‘Sax in The City’. The song caught steam became a chart-topping hit that year, cementing Sir LSG’s name in the South African music game. Fast forward a few years later, Sir LSG with the assistance of Ralf Gum emerges as a household name in South Africa’s House music scene. Having worked with some of the most talented artists, seasoned and up and coming, Sir LSG is undoubtedly a marvel who people will always love, celebrate and champion. His sound is original, soulful and unique, and it allows him to capture the energy and stories of the times he lives in, in a memorable manner. In 2018, he may easily be regarded as a king at what he does. Sir LSG started as an engineering student, isn’t it ironic how he engineered his path, so he could fulfill his calling which is music. Written by Nkululeko Nkosi, for NuSoulHub Radio

Tim White is one of the South African house scene’s underground heroes, integral in laying down the foundations of a unique dance music market. And now that the sector is bearing fruit, his efforts are paying off big time. Tim was a regular DJ at the country’s first real house and techno club, 4th World, and subsequently set up House Afrika Records. Initially just a vinyl store, it then graduated to become a beat emporium that’s a vital outlet for talented local DJs and producers. House Afrika has had major CD successes and hit records, from the first ‘Fresh House Flavas’ and ‘Mzansi House’ compilations through to massive tunes from award-winning artists like Rhythmic Elements and Liquideep (the latter via a deal with the hot Bass Breaks & Beats label). Promoter, empire owner, producer and a DJ renowned for his ‘Sunday Lounging’ style (also incidentally the name of one of his tracks), Tim White is the doyen of deep…

Vinny’s House

2:00pmFriday

2:00pmFriday
