Tim White is one of the South African house scene’s underground heroes, integral in laying down the foundations of a unique dance music market. And now that the sector is bearing fruit, his efforts are paying off big time.
Tim was a regular DJ at the country’s first real house and techno club, 4th World, and subsequently set up House Afrika Records. Initially just a vinyl store, it then graduated to become a beat emporium that’s a vital outlet for talented local DJs and producers.
House Afrika has had major CD successes and hit records, from the first ‘Fresh House Flavas’ and ‘Mzansi House’ compilations through to massive tunes from award-winning artists like Rhythmic Elements and Liquideep (the latter via a deal with the hot Bass Breaks & Beats label).
