Donluiz Musicue – Massive Dynamics EP

Written by on August 31, 2020

Polokwane producer Donluiz Musicue has released tracks on a variety of labels, including his own Solique Felas Music, but this is his House Afrika debut.

And it reveals Donluiz as a prodigious talent with a gentle touch. Opener ‘Ibiza Nights’ lays out some sunshiney chords and a sensually-delivered vocal from Spain’s Rocio Starry before a deadly bassline and nature sounds bubble into the mix. It’s as dynamic as deep house gets.

Next up, ‘Uptown Groove’, remixed by Belgium’s Frederick Alonso, is also absorbing; another probing bassline slicing through some abstracted electronics and momentum-inducing high-hats. A further Rocio Starry collaboration, ‘Found You, Love’, is another ray of light – a looped vocal sample, brightly-bobbing synths and addictive low-end.

Frederick Alonso appears again in collaboration with the Mzansi muso on ‘Go (Donluiz Musicue Soulful Flava Remix)’, and it’s an exercise in sophisticated restraint – dubby and pretty and with a blissful change in the flow halfway through that will delight dancers and listeners.

Finally – and fittingly, seeing as though it’s on the label he co-founded – it’s ‘Vinny’s House (Tribute To Vinny Da Vinci)’, and it’s a beautiful celebration, awash with lush, jazzy notes and pristine detail – precisely the kind of record Vinny would kick off a night with.

Prepare to hear a lot more about Donluiz Musicue in the future – this is ultra-chic deep house.
